'Paris of the South' Series
By Lisa Ringelspaugh-Irvine

Artist Statement

Over the past few years, I continually heard people refer to Asheville as "The Paris of the South." In my mind I saw turn-of-the-century Paris with its explosion of Impressionist artists. If those artists visited Asheville, then what would happen?

So, using humor and tons of artistic license, these watercolor paintings were born.

These paintings are about whimsy, imagination and humor.

When you see them, you will find surprises from Kim’s Wig Shop to the partying S&W Cafeteria. (Lawdy, Miss Claudie! What ahh they doin' in theah?)

My intention is to bring a smile, and offer a moment to relax and reflect. There is truth in the idea of stopping to smell the roses. And, yes, there is truth in this ongoing body of work.
